AVH Emergency MedicineThe Emergency Department at Androscoggin Valley Hospital provides state-of-the-art emergency medical care by emergency trained pyhsicians — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The only New England Heart and Vascular Institute Cardiologist in the North Country is located in the Hospital, as is a full time Neurologist. In addition to being the largest 911 receiving facility for the region, AVH provides care for patients who arrive with a health crisis that needs immediate attention.  

Each year, our emergency suite provides care to over 8,700 patients. About 16% of these are admitted to the hospital for further medical care.

NOTE: AVH will never turn away any patient who needs emergency care. However, if your insurance coverage requires a referral for an Emergency Department visit, you may wish to call your primary care physician or your insurance company’s 24-hour emergency hotline for authorization before your visit.
