AVH Emergency MedicineThe Emergency Department at Androscoggin Valley Hospital provides state-of-the-art emergency medical care by emergency trained pyhsicians — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The only New England Heart Institute Cardiologist in the North Country is located in the Hospital, as is a full time Neurologist. In addition to being the largest 911 receiving facility for the region, AVH provides care for patients who arrive with a health crisis that needs immediate attention.  Our Emergency Medicine doctors and nurses have more than 400 years combined experience.

Each year, our emergency suite provides care to over 8,700 patients. About 16% of these are admitted to the hospital for further medical care.

NOTE: AVH will never turn away any patient who needs emergency care. However, if your insurance coverage requires a referral for an Emergency Department visit, you may wish to call your primary care physician or your insurance company’s 24-hour emergency hotline for authorization before your visit.
