For Patients & Visitors

Visiting Patients at AVH

PLEASE NOTE: Visitors with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches or fatigue) are asked not to enter the hospital. Those free of such symptoms are welcome at AVH during our designated visiting hours. There are a few restrictions in some of our units, where patients may need more opportunities for rest and quiet, or where space is a consideration. All visitors are asked to use hand sanitizer and face masks, as appropriate, which are available at entrances to the hospital.

We remind you that smoking is not permitted in any part of our facility or on hospital grounds.

Visiting Hours

Medical/Surgical Unit
10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Women's Services/Valley Birthplace
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Intensive Care Unit
Restricted to immediate family only

If a patient is considered terminally ill by the practitioner responsible for his/her care, the patient’s spouse or next of kin (for an adult) or the patient’s parents (if a child) may visit without restriction.

Children of any age are permitted to visit but we ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

We ask that only two visitors per patient be in the room at any time. This applies to private and semi-private rooms. Other visitors are welcome to wait in the sunroom on the fourth floor or the ICU waiting room on the third floor.

We ask that pets remain at home, unless a seeing-eye dog is required for visually-impaired visitors.

Staff members may request that family and friends limit their visit if it is deemed in the best interest of the patient.

Clergy are welcome to visit patients at any time, but should be requested to check with the nurse prior to their visit.
