Holter Monitor
A Holter Monitor is a portable monitor worn by a patient.
The small, lightweight recorder is designed to monitor a patient's heart rhythm for up to two days. The information gathered helps the patient's physician learn more about the problem that the patient is experiencing, and how it is cardiac-related. The patient reports to AVH's Cardiopulmonary Department on the Hospital's second floor. There, an AVH staff member applies the monitor. Five small electrodes (patches) are placed on the patient's chest. The monitor is then attached with wires. Wearing the monitor is painless, and it is removed when the test is complete.
