The Emergency Department at AVH provides state-of-the-art emergency medical care -- 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to being the largest 911 receiving facility for the region, AVH provides care for patients who arrive with a health crisis that needs immediate attention.
Each year, our emergency suite provides care to over 10,000 patients. About 16% of these are admitted to the hospital for further medical care.

NOTE: AVH will never turn away any patient who needs emergency care. However, if your insurance coverage requires a referral for an Emergency Department visit, you may wish to call your primary care physician or your insurance company’s 24-hour emergency hotline for authorization before your visit.
