To evaluate adult hearing, hearing sensitivity to tones, speech understanding and middle ear function are assessed. Hearing evaluations for children may involve behavior assessment in addition to standard tests and evaluations. If your evaluation indicates the need for a hearing aid, you will have a range of options available, including all “in the ear” and “behind the ear” models, as well as digital and programmable devices. All hearing aids purchased through the audiology clinic come with a warranty from the manufacturer. The terms of these warranties vary depending on the model. All types of hearing aids may be brought to the audiology clinic for servicing here – or, if necessary, we will send your device to the manufacturer for repair. We also repair hearing aids that were not purchased through our clinic. In addition to hearing aids, the audiology clinic can provide custom earplugs for swimmers and for persons who must work or live with a high level of noise. Do you have unexplained dizziness? If so our audiology clinic can help identify the cause with VNG testing. Videonystagmography (VNG) is a series of tests that can determine whether dizziness or a balance disorder may be due to inner ear disease.
Insurance coverageMost health insurance plans include some degree of coverage for hearing assessments. Some also include coverage for hearing aids as well. You should review your plan carefully to determine what it covers. If you’re not sure, talk to the audiology staff before your visit.
